A Capital Campaign update from Casey Wheeler, Executive Director, Columbia Pacific Food Bank.

October 2020

Thank you to everyone who has supported the food bank during these past few months! The need has been great but your contributions during these challenging times have allowed us to meet the increased need by being able to purchase more food to feed Columbia County. Thanks to you, we have continued to serve the needs of those needing food assistance throughout the county during the ongoing pandemic.

Our Capital Campaign to raise funds to outfit our new location is continuing to move forward, but slower than planned. This is due to cancellation of a couple of large fundraising events we had planned. We are approaching the midway point in our $400,000 goal. We have been doing some very small fundraisers that were allowable under the current rules for masks, social distancing, etc. which has helped maintain some momentum.

The Community Development Block Grant process for the renovation of our new location is a slow process and with and with delays due to COVID is just starting to get back on track. However it has stretched our two year timeline to three. We are planning for renovation work to begin by the first of 2021 with us relocating next fall. The City of St. Helens has been a great partner to work with on this project (federal funds had to flow through a governmental agency).

The pandemic has reminded us how quickly our friends and neighbors can become food insecure. It has also reminded us how badly we need our new larger space to warehouse more food assistance, help more people and offer more education on healthy eating. The pandemic has also reminded us what an amazing and generous community we live in. So many of you have stepped up and offered extra financial assistance over the last few months. It is with a heart of gratitude that I ask you to also consider a donation to our Capital Campaign. Every bit helps! Donations can be made online or by check, just indicate “Capital Campaign” in the memo/comment section.

Thank You!

Casey Wheeler

Our new home will be 6x larger than our current space.

This will allow us to warehouse more food and meet the needs of more of our community. We will also have a dedicated training area where we plan to hold classes for our clients.
